A multilayered cathedral on a multilayered hill in Umbria, houses the tomb of St Francis (San Franesco d’Assisi). The old stones of the tomb lie beneath the structure, like a mustard seed, from which centuries of growth have sprouted, both physically and spiritually. The glory of the place is beyond words.

Yesterday we were in Rome, visiting the Vatican, home of Pope Francis, and today Bruce and Brian rode our bikes from our villa to the 800-year old hermitage of St Francis, on the steep ravine at Cortona.






Pray for Ukraine, and all the strife of humankind. These walls are scarred by mens’ hunger for power.









First evening in Rome, we walk to the Vatican, then meet up with our friends for dinner.
